As a Police Communications Operator (PCO), you will operate radio, teletype, telephone and computer terminal equipment. You receive calls, verify information or obtain requested information, and send messages. Although the primary concern of a PCO is communications, you may also be assigned duties including responsibility for miscellaneous filing and other clerical and typing assignments required in conjunction with the operation of a State Police Communications installation.

This position also requires the ability to work Holidays, Weekends and Rotating Shifts. This position in considered an essential employee, therefore you will be required to report for duty in inclement weather and may be placed on an "on-call" status when necessary.

Qualifications

In order to be accepted into the process of applications for PCO for the Maryland State Police you must:
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Type 20 words per minute
  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in stressful situations
