You cannot begin the Maryland State Police application process
until you have attended an Applicant Orientation.

The hiring process for Trooper Candidates is structured, rigorous and detailed. It is designed to help select those applicants who are most qualified. You must successfully complete each step to move on in the process.

The first step for any applicant is the Applicant Orientation, an open-house orientation conducted by members of the Recruitment Staff. During the Applicant Orientation you will learn much more about the Maryland State Police through discussions and video presentations. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to decide if the Maryland State Police is right for you.

All Applicant Orientations begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.

You should arrive on time and plan to spend three hours at the Applicant Orientation. Appropriate business attire (a jacket and tie for men and a pant suit or skirt for women) is expected. Please do not arrive in casual attire such as khakis or jeans as you will not be admitted.

Please be sure to bring the following items when you attend:

  • A Black Pen
  • A Note Pad
  • Your Valid Driver's License
  • Your calendar or Day Planner so you may record future test dates

Orientations are held throughout the State. To view the dates, times and locations of Applicant Orientations, please follow the Applicant Orientation Information link.

If you live more than 5 hours away from the State of Maryland, Click Here to e-mail your information to TFC Lacey. In your e-mail, you must include your: Full name, Mailing address, Military Branch / Separation date (if applicable) and any other relevant information.
